Food Styling + Photography Classes

Are you a content creator looking to improve your food images?
A brand eager to take your in-house photography to the next level?

Maybe you’ve already watched the YouTube tutorials and bought the online courses, and yet you still don’t really get how a camera works - or how to give your photos that “wow” factor? I can help.

I love working with individuals and groups on improving their food styling and photography skills. With over eight years of teaching experience, I’ve helped over 300 students level up their craft.

I’ve worked with corporate teams, like OXO and Tony’s Chocolonely, taught group courses at the Institute of Culinary Education in NYC, as well as at food conferences and professional retreats, and trained dozens of private students in their homes and via Zoom. Whether you're a content creator, brand manager, or aspiring editorial photographer, I can customize a workshop specifically for you.

Classes Include…

  • Intro to lighting - natural and artificial

  • DSLR camera essentials (f-stop, shutter speed, ISO, etc.) + smartphone photography tips

  • Photo composition principles

  • Tips for building your prop closet

  • Recommended food photography equipment

  • Common beginner mistakes to avoid

  • A hands-on practice photo shoot

  • Portfolio review (if applicable)

Please note that at this time, I only offer one-on-one trainings and private corporate workshops. If any public classes are scheduled, they will be listed on this page. For more info about private classes (or if you have any other questions), please email me.

Student Testimonials

  • “For years, I have fiddled with a bunch of dials on my camera, crossing my fingers. Occasionally, I got lucky. Today, I took a class with Alex and finally understand my camera! Not only does she teach the basics, but she gives a very informative perspective on lighting, styling, composition, etc. She gets into it in a very digestible, relatable, and hands-on way."

    Dustin H., Cookbook Author

  • “Alex is an incredibly talented food photographer who came over for a 1:1 training session. YouTube University has treated me well, but nothing can compare to a pro helping you out in real time. We talked through lighting, shooting in manual mode, styling, and props - it was comforting to have her as a sounding board, coaching me step-by-step.”

    Mary W., Recipe Developer

  • "Alex’s class was a successful crash course in all things food content. It was a hands-on introduction to content videography, food/prop styling, and editing. I came in with little to no knowledge of staging a video and left with two beautiful pieces of content. I feel much more confident in creating light in my NYC apartment, and can’t wait to use my new skills!"

    Kendall C., Marketing Manager

  • “I’ve been a hobby photographer for decades and have taken more classes than I can count. Working with Alex one-on-one has been the single most productive time I’ve spent improving my food photography. Alex has such a lovely way about her - she is patient, positive, and practical. In 2 hours on Zoom, we reviewed DSLR basics and equipment, and even set up my home studio.”

Leslie D., Recipe Developer & Health Coach

  • “Alex ran a group workshop that was both valuable and fun for our team. She has an approachable style to food photography, and we took away concrete tips and lessons to help us make our content even better. She is extremely knowledgeable in the space, and the hands-on portion of the class allowed us to work alongside her to really grasp the concepts she taught us during the presentation.”

    Amalia S., Social Media Manager

  • "Alexandra is a wonderful teacher. I had such a fun time working with her, and she taught me more in a few hours than I learned in months of online classes. Thanks to her, I now feel that I actually know how to properly use my DSLR camera, I have a much better understanding of lighting, and I feel much more comfortable with editing software. I can't recommend her classes highly enough."

Anna S., Home Cook + Baker
